  • "The fact is that once I was playing again I was automatically available for everything on the schedule and that meant Stanford. I make no apologies for that and, as for the suggestion that I should waive the fee or give it to charity, I don't see why I should be a special case."
Steve Harmison feels strongly about suggestions that he came out of one-day retirement in order to play the Stanford Twenty20 for 20

England v Pakistan, 3rd Test, Headingley, 4th day

By Will 2 years ago, at the start of August Leave a comment on this post

So, we’re looking at a one innings match here. It’s all about how quickly England can score today - I don’t think the pitch will deteriorate enough to worry Pakistan in the fourth innings, if they’re set a tempting total. We have a match on here. Chat away.

Very sneaky to put a link from the commentary to your website. That’ll drive traffic no end!

Shots of the Week looks to be a good feature! Your idea, Will, or did you just compile the first week?

I have just tuned in while in the office - couldn’t follow the game at all til now, and I’m speechless to find Tresco and Strauss have put on a 100 partnership. Wow.

Fascinating to see how much air time Tresco’s front knee is getting, I swear Sky’s got a kneecam dedicated to it.

A disjointed performance from both sides so far, don’t you think? Batsmen on both sides getting lots of runs, with others obviously scratching around for form, and still others involved in comical run-outs and worse.

The bowlers on both sides seem to be really struggling to attack with any kind of consistency, and the umpires have added to the general feeling of disharmony with some dreadful decisions.

Can we just all pack up and move on to The Oval, please?

Will England push on and play for the win or hold for the draw - so far it looks like they are going for the draw to me

I think England have to be more positive, and not be afraid to lose. They have been very cautious and hardly ambitious with their decelarations over the past few years, and this has resulted in matches turning out to be boring draws with the opposition having no chance… with the exception of The Ashes 2005.

Everything points to an exciting fifth day
Be interesting to see if England can hold on for the last few overs. How many more runs can the tail put on?
    How’s it looking out there?
Can Panesar spin us to a win? Will hoggy find his form?

Chasing 323! Hmm - we’ll see, seems reachable.
Well done Read - a fine 50 when everyone else was falling by the way side- invaluable for him.
So what do we reckon - can we bowl them out. Encouraging for Monty - something happening in the pitch - and be nice to have a better show from Harmi and Hoggy.

If the worst comes to the worst England can pack an offside field and bowl wide outside off stump. Hoggard and Harmison both look knackered. I can here Duncan Fletcher now saying that “Mahmood needs to come to the party”. It just shows again that a 4 bowler attack can’t afford a weak link.

A word on Monty: All the press seems to think the crowd at cricket games think he’s some sort of joke and that we’re laughing at him, i think this is far from the truth, i think the crowd acctualy think he’s a good player, in fact, the supporters seem to be the only people who know Monty can acctualy bat and field.
