  • I think those speed guns are a load of crap. Somehow the white ball goes faster - I bowled 83-84mph in the Test match, and 93mph in the one-dayers. It's crazy. I hadn't bowled a ball for ten days.

England v Pakistan, 3rd Test, Headingley, 2nd day

By Will 2 years ago, at the start of August Leave a comment on this post

Odd first day. England raced along at more than four-per-over yet some of the decisions by the umpires - Billy Doctrove and Darrell Hair - were criminal. All worked in the favour of England and, in particular, Kevin Pietersen who nevertheless rode his luck with typical audacity and bullishness. Despite the loss of Chris Read - making his comeback after two-and-a-half-years - and the nightwatchman Matthew Hoggard, England ended the day on top. Pakistan, luckless throughout, looked lifeless and dispirited for much of the day; only Umar Gul showed any form or control. Mohammad Sami, though occasionally quick, lacked any semblance of control.

Day two - what will it hold? Chat away!

Looking forward to seeing Bell and Pieterson reunited this morning, especially with Bell looking in the form of his life.

I like your prediction ty. On the basis of Trent Bridge my dream England figures in the Pakistan’s first inning are:

    Bowlers O M R W
    S Harmison(rf) 9.0, 0, 17, 6 (4nb, 12w)
    M Hoggard(rfm) 9.0, 5, 10, 0 (0nb, 0w)
    M Panesar(sla) 2.1, 0, 16, 4 (0nb, 0w)

With Pietersen and Collingwood adding a couple of overs each because Strauss is trying to look like a thinking captain. Mahmood wouln’t get a bowl at all the S. Jones wannabe.

Wonder how many bat-pad caught behinds England will get…

Bell will either get nobbled early, or plough on inevitably towards a century. KP will get up to about 160, then do something outrageously stupid and hole out, and we’ll declare, with plenty of fresh bowlers for tomorrow.

Incidentaly… KP seemed very keen to trumpet on about his engagement yesterday on Channel 5. I couldn’t help but notice he had his fiance’s name freshly tattooed on the very arm that cramped up (correct me if I’m wrong).

Wasn’t it Jenny, or Jennifer? Perhaps Miss Thompson made a hit as an N-Power Girl.

Well Fox Sports in Australia as decided that The South Africa V Australia rugby game is more important than the cricket! :( So they arn’t going to the cricket untill the second session! :(
Oh well looks like im stuck with the Average commentary on cricinfo for the first session! :P
    (Only joking Will! ;) )

England to get 450, KP very few more, Bell to be once again not out 110+. Pakistan 5/120 with bowlers sharing the wickets.

I’m also hearing about a hand injury but the voice is very faint…the man i’m talking to isn’t from round here…could he be….could he be from wales, or perhaps wales via australia, he is only recently departed…anyway he’s telling me about a hand injury; does this mean anything to anybody?

Well Bell really needs to get to his century - we don’t want him letting the side down by being the first english player this season to get out between 50-99. come on convert it Bell, and lets get 100 no 8 in the bag.

Ian Bell is out scoring Pieterson at the moment! :D
I wish i could be watching it! :(
England have had a good start to the morning and it certintly aint looking good for Inzi and his lads! :( If they don’t get a wicket soon then this Test is all but lost!

Three hundred in a row for Bell. It shows how much Test cricket is a mind game when you compare him to the player he was last summer.

Just saw that nice girl Jessica, who’s engaged to KP, up in the stands with the others wives and girlfriends, and she was standing up giving Bell a really good clap for his century.

It appears Steve Harmison is going crazy! Consecuative 6’s one ver followed by consecutive 4’s the next!
And i still can’t watch it cause of the bloody rugby! :(
But at least Pieterson and Bell are finally gone! :D

So pleased for Bell - proving himself! Before the ashes he was batting so well, then he had no luck during the ashes, but he’s taken his advantage to get back in the squad, and how can you drop him now?

  • Elliott wrote:

But as you sya, he batted so well BEFORE the ashes lass year! And it is now before the ashes this year…
Does this mean he is going to go badly in this years ashes…

Looks like this one’s going to be a bit harder than Old Trafford.

Still, we’re only at the end of day 2.

(These Friday starts certainly upset your timing don’t they!!)
