I was hiding behind my sofa, rocking slightly.

Where were you and what were you doing when it all got crap-ya-pants nerve-wrackingly exciting?

I should add that my sofa, most of the time, is against the wall.

I was nursing a slipped disc and sky-high on pain medication. How wonderful to have a bona-fide honest-to-God medical condition during the Ashes!

It was a disgrace. In Hong Kong, I watched almost every ball of the Test match. A 6pm kick off each day was and remains extremely helpful for watching England home series.
I watched all four days, and then Sunday dawned. ESPN Cricket Channel took the editorial decision to cover the opening morning of Zimbabwe v New Zealand instead. A mini controversy broke out in the sports pages over the course of the next few days, as ‘disgruntled subscribers jammed the switchboard’ of ESPN HQ. Listening on TMS like that produces absolute terror. It was horrific.

I was writing my PhD thesis - at least that was the idea! Most of the time I was just eating my way through my fingernails.
