Jones did keep well in the last Test. I was never much a Jones fan, did prefer Read, but we have to look at reality and that means, the England squad love him, Fletcher has invested too much in Jonesie to drop him now, and he is now doing his job. Look at the mess since losing Vaughen, SJones, Freddie et al. Be grateful, if GOJones steps on a ball at warm-up, we know we have some goodies to come in and keep.

The end of a Test match involving England usually sounds the death knell for Geraint Jones; if not his execution then he, or his supporters, are certainly called to account. Sure enough, readers of The Corridor have been sounding off much to my interest. Head over to this post which I wrote last year; around 85 comments have been left since then, and 10 or so left today alone after the end of the first Test against Pakistan.
He didn’t score runs of great significance in this Test but, it must be said, his wicketkeeping was (very nearly) faultless.

I think Duncan Fletcher made the wrong choice with replacing Geraint Jones for Chris Read. Geraint is a better and more experienced keeper and shouldnt have been dropped. However, i am pleased that Geraint is going to have some time off now and play for Kent where he is facing different bowlers when he is batting. Geraint should be mentioned in the Ashes squad to go to Down Under because by then, Geraint will be in form and hitting the ball all around the park, getting fifty’s and maybe the occasional century. Since we lost Vaughen, Simon Jones and Freddie we have been in a right mess and now Fletcher dropping Jones is too much chopping and changing. Fletcher should stick to one simple team with a good back up if due to injury, not all these new players like Bresnan, Lewis and Blackwell who did nothing for the team and just lost tests for us.During the Ashes, we need a decsent keeper and that keep needs to be… Jones!!! Good luck, Geraint!!!!!!!!!
