Andrew Flintoff makes his Championship comeback today against Kent. Live scorecard.

yeah, but his bowling figures as I write are 6-1-11-2, which I’m sure you will agree, is tasty!

When was the last time Flintoff actually got a decent score with the bat?

I reckon it must have been his 102 at Trent Bridge last August.

Yeah, I thought it had been a while. And to be fair, I think something has to give if you’re expected to be all things to all people! I don’t think people can expect him to fire in both aspects of allrounderdom as well as be leader. It’s too much. I remember him saying himself last year that it was hard enough to get batting and bowling firing at once.
So much pressure is being put on him right now — every newspaper story treats his comeback as the Second Coming.
But I guess it doesn’t matter too much that he’s not racking up big scores since batting isn’t England’s problem right now.

Four Test fifties on the India tour suggest there is no long-term slump in his batting. From the injury point of view it’s his bowling that’s the worry, and the performance against Kent suggest’s he’s nearing full fitness again.

I see Freddie’s Lancashire teammates are saying that the big man has lost so much weight that he’s calling himself Peter Crouch…
