Steve Harmison feels strongly about suggestions that he came out of one-day retirement in order to play the Stanford Twenty20 for 20

The final one-dayer. Hurrah! Come on England, let’s at least see if they can compete this time.

A comfortable start, but Vaas is bowling very well.

    Anyone out there?

Not a bad start for England, what score do you think we’ll be looking for 280 ish?

It’s painful to watch now :( Jayasuriya and Tharanga are making Strauss & Co. look like school kids.

Nice batting from Trescothick, but Sri Lanka’s on pace for one of the most impressive run chases in ODI history. It’s hard to say whether it’s the greatest batting effort or the worst bowling effort. One wonders whether England could have defended 400.

I hope England has some healthy bowlers (Flintoff and Hoggard, for example) in time for their next ODI (Aug. 30 in Cardiff), because I’ll be in the stands.

At the end of England’s 50 overs I was about to post something saying England would have to do something special to lose if from their position. At the 33rd over mark of Sri Lanka’s innings, I applaud the English bowlers for showing anything is possible.

Hmm, not a good day for England sport all round.

England batted well, but bowled execrably. I couldn’t watch it. I don’t know how Andrew Strauss kept his chin up. Must have been awful. I’ve never seen batting like that in a one-dayer: amazing example of confidence vs no-confidence.

5-0.. unbelievable.. are these guys playing for england? I was in shock. They didn’t really take it seriously. When you keep saying that test matches are what count then you’re going to end up with results like these. Give one day cricket the respect it deserves and focus on it. England is now ranked 8th.. just above zimbabwe and bangla..
i was hoping england would do well in the odis so that pak could get more points on the ranking system by beating them.. now i hope we can make it 5-0 too or we’ll lose a lot of points losing to a team ranked 8th!
unfortunately.. pak is so inconsistent that it will never win anything 5-0.. if we win a series we totally take the foot off the pedal for the remaining games…

Why can’t England ever take responsibility for a loss? They ALWAYS look for someone to blame. Yes, England had a few key players missing but so what, they have strength in depth to come up into international cricket, and they just didn’t perform as wel as they should have done. WHY can’t they just take responsiblity for playing SHITE?

It’s the same in football, WHY blame ronaldo!? WHY blame rooney!? It’s not their fault lampard, gerrard and carragher missed penalties!
