Very depressing news about Vaughan, Will. All I can see ahead is awful humiliation in Australia.

That’s kind of similar to what people were saying about this time last year, isn’t it? If everyone apart from Simon Jones is fit by November, that should be enough to be competitive. I hope.
Even if Vaughan is still out by then, it’s not as big a deal as missing two or more first-choice bowlers. Maybe we should wrap Harmison up in cotton wool…

Well, I hope you’re right. But I think Vaughan’s leadership and tactics were really crucial last year. And also, even if they were saying the same things about the Ashes a year ago, at least England at that point had quite a long trot of confidence-building wins behind them. Unlike now.

Afternoon all - looks like we are up for another hammering. Oh hang on is that Jayasuriya just been run out?

England seem to be bowling long hops outside off stump - how do they expect to win any game of cricket at this rate.

we are not going to win this ODI. It is horrible. Sri Lanka are having a fine time and good luck to them, sorry, no sympathy for England today at all.
No whine, but wine. I’m off for a glass of SA Chardonnay now. Howzat for non-partisan? Cheers all ![]()

So, what did everyone make of Ian Bell’s innings? Personally, I reckon they should have held back Collingwood until Bell’s wicket went, and sought to combine an anchorman at one end with a big hitter at the other - Dalrymple, Jones, or similar.
Given as we’ve ballsed up the series, it’s time to start experimenting - Dalrymple as a pinch-hitter, perhaps, with Strauss batting further down the order?
