    Drugs in cricket

By Will 2 years ago, at the end of June Leave a comment on this post

Performance-enhancing drugs aren’t common (as far as we know) in cricket. In football, athletics and basketball - yes - but not cricket. Not yet, anyway.

Tim May, the chief executive of the Federation of International Cricketers’ Associations (FICA), has said in this month’s Wisden Cricketer magazine players may be forced to use drugs in an effort to sustain themselves, given the amount of cricket they play.

You only have to look at the doping record in baseball to see that recovery, not enhanced power, is the motivation for most drug misuse. The more we push players the more they might look at options.”

    Worrying indeed. Thoughts?

    Yes, Will. It is worrying.

I don’t think cricket is immune from this sort of thing and Tim May is right to bring it up even though there is no evidence of widespread drug use at the moment.

Malcolm Speed (ICC chief executive) replied to May’s comments by saying:

“Remarks like that serve no purpose in a reasoned debate and they do FICA no credit at all.”

This is typical Malcolm Speed. Anything controversial or difficult will always be brushed under the carpet by Speed and his bunch of spineless muppets.

I (and many cricket fans the world over) cannot believe that these idiots are in charge of the game we love.

I tell you what would rock for cricket, slowing down time.

I’m not sure drugs can cause that though. Hm.

I think it is a blinkered view to say performance or recovery enhancing drugs aren’t about in cricket, just that except for Shane Warne I can’t think of anyone who has been caught.

And the excuse that his mum gave him a diuretic so he wouldn’t look fat on TV does rank amongst the funniest anyone has every tried.

yeah and to be honest, there will probably be a few cases of players taking drugs soon, as alot of players are complaining about playing too much cricket and getting not much in return, so obviously some will take drugs to enhance their recovery time. The ICC need to act now, before it’s too late.
