  • "The fact is that once I was playing again I was automatically available for everything on the schedule and that meant Stanford. I make no apologies for that and, as for the suggestion that I should waive the fee or give it to charity, I don't see why I should be a special case."
Steve Harmison feels strongly about suggestions that he came out of one-day retirement in order to play the Stanford Twenty20 for 20

    The media centre at Lord’s

A decidedly rubbish photo of my view from the media centre during the interval, England v Sri Lanka, June 18, 2006. I’m going to The Oval tomorrow and will have my proper camera with me - and I might pop into Lord’s on Wednesday (day off) to take some more of the media centre, assuming that’s ok with the powers that be.

Rubbish photo or not, Will, I envy you.

I’ve just watched an episode from season 3 of Spooks where Danny takes this former Pakistani terrorist, who is a passionate devotee of cricket, to Lord’s so he can hit a ball around. He’s thrilled with the experience, which is fortunate, because he gets a bullet through the head from a passing assassin as they’re driving home from Lord’s.

Allie: thanks (I think!). Never give up on your dreams. I am living, working proof of that. Believe in what you want to do, work your arse off and good things happen.

Kathy: I can confirm Lord’s, and its surrounding area, are pleasantly calmer than what you describe!

Well, Spooks is a show that is pretty imaginative in the locations it chooses. Nice to see Lord’s featuring in a fictional English drama. And I’m only talking about this so I don’t have to think about the state of English cricket… which has me really down.
