We are all thankful to Darren Gough

By Will 2 years ago, mid-June Leave a comment on this post

Never again (not this week at least) will I make disparaging remarks about Darren Gough. Essex today were nine down, with Zaheer Khan looking for his tenth in the innings for Worcesterhisre. He blitzed 50 from 33 balls before falling to Matt Mason. Good old twinkle-toes. Khan’s astonishing figures last night of 9 for 28 in 69 balls look rather less special after Gough laid into him: 9 for 138!

    Not a bad effort, Zaheer.

And to think that gough was dropped by the keeper off zaheer’s bowling…… how much closer can you get to a 10 wkt haul :D….poor zaheer must have lost his mind after that :))

Mentioning Goughie makes me think that his kind of aggression (usually with the bowling, it has to be said) is what England are lacking at the moment. During last summer, when we were full strength, we had Harmison, Flintoff, and Jones all bowling with venom. Right now, excepting Harmy who’s just got back into the side, we’re lacking that firepower, the aggression, and determination.
