Hi all, I won’t be adding any comments for a while as I’m off to the UK this morning. So Will, yes, I still do care about the cricket ![]()
England v Sri Lanka, 2nd Test, Edgbaston, 4th day
By Will 2 years ago, at the end of May Leave a comment on this post
Yesterday was one of those days where you wonder why you ever started to enjoy cricket. You sit there, all day, waiting for news and watching endless replays of Edgbaston 2005 (which is surely the new Headingley 81). Play finally got underway at 16.50, which was a damn good effort from Steve Rouse and the Edgbaston groundsmen. And Sri Lanka batted very resiliantly, as they have done in their second innings so far this tour. By no means are they out of it yet. Weather permitting, the fourth day promising to be fascinating.

Bloody Tennis!
Fox Sports here in Australia decided that some live tennis tournament is more important that the cricket.
Just for tonight. We get our live coverage back tommorow! ![]()
Just when the test was starting to get interesting as well!

At last - the sixth wicket’s down. Flintoff again. Let’s hope the next 4 wickets go soon. England need a convincing win today.

Just got up (I’m four hours behind you guys in the UK) and pleased to see that we require 59 runs. Surely even we can’t make that sound like a challenging target!

We’ll have to do something special to lose this now. Murali is looking dangerous though - i’m glad we arent chasing 140+.

Excellent summary of England’s performance by Daniel Brigham at Cricinfo - the only point he doesn’t mention is that most national coaches would probably be happy to swap their problems for Duncan Fletcher’s…
Hopefully Vaughan’s knee will stand up to county cricket - Freddie can have the one-day job, he’s in no danger of overbowling himself there ![]()

Haven’t been following the match much here, but seeing the final scorecare the English would have hated to be missing the Kevin Pietersen knock.
Shows how an innings by a single person can be as effective in a test match as in a one-dayer.

Pietersen, in England’s second innings, couldn’t play Muralitharan for toffee. His reverse sweep was just embarrassing. But that’s the thing with unorthodox strokes, when they work it’s awesome, and when they don’t you just look like an idiot. This is from someone who likes unborthodox strokes.

Yes, Will, the groundsman and his team were fantastic on Saturday, as it had rained pretty steadily until about two o’clock.
There came a point during the afternoon where most of the fans holed up in the pub across the road agreed that they’d rather the cricket was called off for the day.
This would have meant getting our fifty quid back, then going along on the Sunday, tickets being on sale for twenty five.
As it was, play eventually began and we were treated to some pretty dull cricket, the only bright point being Hoggy trapping Dilshan lbw.
Difficult to blame the players though. It can’t be easy sitting around in the dressing room all day and then having to come come out for 34 overs.
Crikey, I’ve just realised that the cricket on Saturday cost me nearly one pound fifty an over.

Anyone got any idea where I might be able to see a video of the now infamous Pietersen reverse sweep on Muralitharan?
