England v Sri Lanka, 2nd Test, Edgbaston, 1st day

By Will 2 years ago, at the end of May Leave a comment on this post

Well, the weather forecast (as of 20.00 Wednesday) is okay for Thursday in Birmingham…but it’s looking cruddy for Friday and the bank holiday weekend. Sanath Jayasuriya will miss out. If you must(!), you may depart these shores to briefly check on the scorecard, but hurry back and enter into some intelligent discourse among yourselves. Chat, in other words.

I spoke last night to a mate , who was enjoying a curry in Brum. Proud possessor of a ticket he, he crooned his joy at being there while I am not. I often allow for mental abberations in my group of friends, especially when Test cricket is concerned. I hope he has a brolly with him - weather forecast is not good.

So it’s a Bank Holiday over here, and without rhyme or reason, I am up far too early. Hope to chat with you all later. Today is called “Christi Himmelfahrt” and celebrates the day Christ entered Heaven.

Surprisingly, there is no cricket here today, so I can grab a big unhealthy breakfast and listen to TMS all day. See you later!

Eng vs SL starts here on TV at 9.30pm, and then there’s lots of David Gower chitchat first before the action gets underway. So it makes it a long night. I’ll probably last until lunch then tape the rest.

A great start! One for Hoggy and two for Plunkers!

(Having to sneak my comments in so my new boss doesn’t see me…)

…and there goes another for plunkett. Seems that England’s bowlers are quite effective after all. Nice to see some good catches being taken, too…

Oh wow. We cannot possibly screw this up, surely.

Two dropped, and one catch off a no-ball, I’m told. So we can probably find a way to screw it up still!

I’ll be very interested to see the bowling graphs for Plunkett - his second-innings spell at Lords was terrfiyingly consistent and metronomic.

    His idol? Glen McGrath, apparently

If he starts swinging the bat like he did in Pakistan, his place will be fairly secure. I can certainly see him heading to the Windies as part of the ODI side.

England trail by 3 runs with 7 wickets remaining in the 1st innings at the close - not a bad position, especially if Pieterson, Flintoff etc ram the advatage home tomorrow! Let’s hope the weather stays fine.
