Good grief. This surprises me somewhat, but it’s nevertheless great news for Wales and Welsh cricket. More at Cricinfo.

Geographically it makes sense, no test match in south west, a huge area without a test match ground facility. however, why australia?? surely they could have done what chester le street has done, and “build up” using less “glamorous” teams. A huge ashes test as the first test for a ground?

It is the England AND WALES Cricket Board, of course, and Cardiff is a fantastic city for sporting events, but it does seem a little strange.

Jag: I’m not elated, as such. I’m half Welsh and pleased that a smaller ground (and Wales in partic) are receiving recognition. But the decision is bizarre, and I worry for the future of two old clubs, Old Trafford and Trent Bridge. I just don’t understand the decision-making processes. As for Bransgrove, well, he’s understandably bitter but, yes, a bit bonkers…
