Well that’s fairly disappointing. I was hoping for some sort of marital bust-up applicable for the front page of the Star.
Anyway, good to see he’s made himself available for SOMERSET etc.

So, Marcus Trescothick’s reasons for leaving India have been revealed today. He had a virus and cited the endless amount of international cricket as reasons for his departure. I hope he makes a swift return; his importance to England cannot be underestimated.

what??
what a pansy..
playing in india is really tough and he decided to skip the heat and let his team mates battle it out in the tough conditions..
even if he had a viral what ever.. he should have stayed with the team..
if he wasn’t up for it.. then he should have stayed home from the start..
UNLESS.. there really was something “private” and he just didn’t want to talk about it… and came out with this lame virus idea..
Puhleeze. You expect me to believe that yarn?
What a total wuss - that is if you can believe what he is saying now. If it is true he has dug an even bigger hole for himself for leaving the tour because he had a virus (so did most of the team at some stage) and felt a bit homesick. Touring is part of his job, and he is paid handsomely to do it! I was initially sympathetic towards him - now I just feel he has let everyone down - mainly his colleagues. But that does not seem to have occurred to him.
Or maybe dog ate his…umm..bat(s)?
There will be even more speculation now that instead of having the sense to keep quiet, Trescothick has come out with this nonsense about a virus being the reason he returned home. Absolutely no one will believe that story.
He would have been better advised to remain silent & do what he is very very good at - playing Cricket. Once he restarts & gets his usual load of runs, everything about him leaving India in a hurry would have been forgotten.
He does not have to explain his personal life to the media or to the public, however if he decides to announce to the media some ridiculous excuse such as a virus (which is apparently a surprise to the team Management) then it is sadly highly likely that the press, having initially respected his privacy, will now dig around until they find the real reason.
The hole he has dug just gets bigger
