South Africa v Australia, 2nd Test, Durban, 5th day

By Will 2 years ago, at the end of March Leave a comment on this post

Final day. South Africa’s backs against the wall. Equally, the weather might play a part - and the pitch, too (it’s 22.40 the night before…rumours there’s a dispute with the pitch which was repaired yesterday when it shouldn’t have been. So it’s being unrepaired!)

Hayden had this to say about the pitch repair.

Do Aussies have the shortest memories in international cricket?

Shame I couldn’t google and find any similarly outraged comments by Hayden at that time. Or, indeed, by anyone in the Oz team at all.

Well my second grade team won our grand final!
I hope this explains my absense from the comments for the last two days! ;)

Well i went out to open, same of as always, same parnter, went to the non-strikers end like always! The first over was a hard one for mw to understand…
    x.x… :(
mmmmm…….. imagine what i was thinking! I lost my parneter first ball! and Number 3 3rd ball! I was up other end watching in disbelive! 3rd wickets fell witht he score on 18. And it was down to two of the youngest ‘men’ in the team. Myself (15) and another 16 year old batting at four. We consolidated the innings with a partnaship that has later been dubed the match winning partnaship! We consolidated and pulled the team out of the depths of shit creek with a solid parnashit of 75 in just under two hours! Which layed the foundations for what wa left of of our batsmen. Two of which went on to get 80 odd each. We ended up 8/317 dec at the end of day one! (Sat) Although i only made 35 runs, it was the time at the crease that was the important thing. I faced 112 balls in 146 minutes for my 25 hard earned runs. One of which of those 112 balls manged to hit right on top of the head, it was a fourcious farst paced bouncer. Thank God for helmets!

Day two started in similar fashion to day one, except we were fielding, and we were taking the wicket on the first ball of the day! :) In the end they had an early collapse but none of there batsman could stick around and do what i did and consolidate the innings! We bowled them out for 160 just after tea!

I had monday off school, becasue i didn’t get to bed till 5:00 AM! After going back to our club straight after the game, the club shouted FREE beer and 12 Pizza’s! At about 10:00 (when the bar at the club closed) the whole team came back to my house and we sat in out big 8 person outdoor hot tub/spa. We had ten people plus the Premiership trophy in the spa! To say it was a bit shishy would be an understatment. A couple of ur fast bowlers are firly big units! It was a good night a few of the blokes slept in our caraven in our backyard and we all went back to the cricket club on monday for a BBQ and more piss! :D

Now that i have writern all that, it is time to go and turn the commentry off using our digital pay tv so i can here what Warney is saying to Smith!

Good to see your learning how to celebrate a premiership at an early age there Elliot - well done.

    Well done, Elliot!
I only played in one grand final win in about fifteen years of senior cricket. Your lucky to be in one so young. May you have many more! :-)

(And may Warne pick up another 6 wickets before the rain comes…)

I agree SpryCorpse - 23 years of cricket, two premierships, one in my first year and one in my last year - Good Times Elliot.

BTW Akshay, you can’t find any outraged comments from the last time, because Australia weren’t outraged. Considering the pitch tampering order by South Africa in the First Test, I think they were right to be wary.

It’s not like the players did it - still the Aussie bashing goes on. Winners are grinners I guess ;-)

    You said it, Stu.
I wonder if Warney will bring up the 700 wickets in Bangladesh? Two Tests should be ample for him to get the required 30 wickets. :-)
Ponting will make some cash from the bowlers bribing him to open the bowling!

Nice website, Elliot. I just checked to see that you weren’t making it all up. But there it was, your name up in lights! I did note that you had Brett Lee in the line-up which must have helped a little….
And I’m guessing that you might be off-air again for a couple of days after the annual dinner in April. :-)
