South Africa v Australia, 1st Test, Cape Town, Day One

By Will 2 years ago, mid-March Leave a comment on this post

I’m posting these templates in advance. After the dramatic events in the recent one-day series, this Test series could either be a humdinger or a damp squib. And that, ladies and gentlemen, might well be the most useless sentence I’ve written on this blog.

SA win the toss - not a bad toss to lose given everything. Surprised to hear, no MacGill. I think bowling first, is Australia’s chance to take a little of the wind out of SA’s sails, but of course a bad day here (for Aus) would only exaggerate SA’s current momentum.

Anyone know if you can stream radio commentary of the test anywhere online?

AB lucky to escape LBW decision - good to see benefit of the doubt though…

Seems like no-one’s here Will :-( I’m pumped. SA 2 for 45. Clarke and Kasper with the wickets and they were the worry. Keep ‘em rolling Aussies. Warne still to come!

Oh well, now it’s 3 for 50 - momentum from last Sunday = gone!

Stuart Clark hasn’t had a too bad a first session has he? He had only played 2 hours of test cricket in his life and he has 3 wickets!! :)

SA must be dreading the next 2 hours already!

And how much is Tony Greig hating that catch by Warne/Gilchrist? He’s doing his best to “bag” Warne - but out it out - Greig has nowhere to go!

I dont think he had his eyes open! Just didn’t see it till it hit him. But it was just luck that it happend to hit his knees and sit up for the boot. :)

and they’re on a Nelson at 111 so another wicket is bound to fall soon. Plus, the SA tailend are bunnies. Will be surprised if they reach 150 at this rate.

told you so - 7 down now. Am glad I am not SA at this moment - mind you, England don’t look too brilliant against India and I might be crying into my tea this time on Saturday :(

I’m thinking damp squib, not humdinger. Now, I predict Saturday’s Test will be an all-time great, with Monty taking 11 wickets. Wht am I always wrong?

Please tell me, because I cannot see any live action - was the bowling that good or was the batting that awful? Still 205 was more than I expected.
Christopher, much as I love England, I am not expecting that great a game in Mumbai on Saturday :( but would nice for Monty to get a least a 5-for.

this is so typical of SA..
you just knew that sa is going to mess up after having done so well in the last odi..
why does it take sa to be up against the wall to perform well..

Does the decision by Ponting to leave out McGill and include Clark qualify as a good piece of captaincy?

Wraye, Chris, why Monty? Flintoff or Hoggard are more likely. Indian pitches are good for spinners, but only Indian spinners. I am surprised so many people don’t realize it. Not very many spinners have done well in India.

Pratik, I guess because we want to see Monty do well. We know Flintoff and Hoggy can do the business, but with Harmison out, we need the extra power - that is why we are rooting for Monty. Do you agree, Chris?
