Cricket is - presumably - an "unknown unknown", something he doesn't know he doesn't know anything about.

They showed him playing cricket on the news here stateside and I called every person I knew, because many of them claimed that cricket would never be on TV in America.

After the initial excitement wore down, I started screaming "He's chucking it!" when they showed footage of him "bowling." It was encouraging, though, to watch him bat and know that, at worst, I am only the second-worst batsman in America.

He still has more of a clue (and far less embarrasing than <a href="http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-841438246387500778&q=john+howard" rel="nofollow">John Howard!</a>

It does strike me that the Pakistani authorities missed a trick here. Rather than gently lobbing a tennis ball at Bush, they should have given him the full experience of having the red leather aimed at his head at 100 mph. Yes, I know Shoaib Akhtar is injured at the moment, but there are other suitably terrifying quicks who could have done the job nearly as well. It might also have helped civil peace in Pakistan, as the anti-Bush protesters would have been too busy laughing to cause any real trouble and so with a bit of luck no-one would have been hurt on the demos.

The picture of Dubya meeting Inzamam is worthy of a caption competition in its own right...

First man: "I hear you're the laziest, slowest-moving man to lead your country"

Second man: "nah, Reagan was pretty bad"

I should also say better Bush than Cheney. If you get hit by a stray beamer from Cheney you're expected to apologize to him. :-)

And thanks, Will, for the encouragement about the limericks. If I win a t-shirt I hope the incompetent post office here in France can get it to me.

Sometimes Bush closely resembles those who parody him. (I remember the time he couldn't open the door and looked like a doofus) Uncanny.

As a rare American-born cricket fan, I had to say something about this.

The good news is that another American actually tried playing the game. The bad news is that he handles a bat and ball about as well as he handles budgets and post-war planning.

I love the look on the kid's face at Dubya's right...it's one I see every time I ask my son to help me with something on the computer...the one that says "you have to be kidding me, you wanted to do what with it?"
