India v England, 1st Test, Nagpur, Day Three

By Will 2 years ago, at the start of March Leave a comment on this post

(Day one comments | Day two)

Interesting day, yesterday. England fought their way to 400 (falling just short) and, thanks to the lower-order supporting him, Paul Collingwood hit a fine first century. He’s not Bradman, but he does have a lot of guts.

So India trail by 257 runs. At stumps yesterday, Rahul Dravid (40*) and Wasim Jaffer (73*) were batting quite serenely - but they still trail, and won’t be sleeping too easily. Were it not for Collingwood’s century, England would be in a mess right now. And while his knock has helped balance the scales somewhat, the ball is in India’s court. It could be a long day for the fielders.

    Chat away, chaps.

Morning all, I’ll give you odds of 5-1 that Boycs on TMS mentions rhubarb at least once in the first hour. Any takers?

Dravid out to Hoggy! Oh happy day!

Oh oh - here comes Sachin …

Morning Jess! Am already on my 3rd cuppa tea here. All this blather about replacement bowlers for Jones and sweet little Hoggy gets the wickets. Beautiful!

I love Hoggy. If it wasn’t for the fact that he’s married and likes dogs, I’d have his babies…

(That might just be early-morning delirium speaking ;) )

    ” … have his babies …”

but not during a Test, Jess ;)

Brief respite during the shipping forecast. My doc has chosen today to put me on a 24 hour BP monitor. Radio squeals like crazy every time it turns on - every 15 mins. He’s going to have a bird when he sees my levels this morning. Sigh. Will have to explain cricket to yet another German …

  • Jess wrote:

Heh, actually I was going to put that in at the end :D

Hope everything’s ok and that the bp thing is just precautionary.

What’s amazing is that, apart from losing wickets, we’re not scoring any runs either!

with Freddie batting, bowling and now skippering so well, I wouldn’t have been surprised to see him run for Lib Dem leader too! ;-)

Really excellent bowling by England. I wonder how much Jones would have added to it (just imagine him instead of Blackwell).

In fact, in the first session, Fred and Hoggy going off relieved the pressure. Had Jones been there instead of Harmy, it could have been a bigger disaster

Well done Hoggard !! Since the Ashes when everyone and his bartender wanted to drop him(because he merely swung the ball) Hoggers has not looked back. Oh, and please sack your Physiotherapist or at least send him to the aussies !!

Hey chaps! What a morning for England - definitely the best day for England since the Ashes I would say.

I’ve been searching around for live TV feeds and I’ve found a whole list here: http://live.cricket.deepthi.com/

Check it out! It’s also very amusing to watch Indian adverts (apologies to our Indian friends - well, the novelty hasn’t worn off yet anyway!)

    Come on England!!

Great performance by Hoggard, just wish Harmison could hit his straps.

G Jones is really frustrating me. His work behind the stumps is just poor. He can’t even take regulation chances to the quicks, and if Panesar is here to stay, we need a world class gloveman who can snaffle chances and not miss stumpings. Jones clearly has talent with the bat but is way too inconsistent.

What a nice surprise this morning. I was fully expecting to see Dravid still in with the beginnings of a monster score to his name. They haven’t got a wicket since I’ve been up though. maybe I should go back to bed.

I’ve been doing my bit by guzzling tea all morning - usually a wicket falls when I need the loo. Worked a treat this morning, but not any more. What am I doing wrong?

  • Will wrote:

Nothing, I suspect. It’s good batting by the two Ks, but some dross bowled by Harmison although I do concede he’s not had his share of luck. India sitting happy now, I reckon. Partnership of 99*

The captaincy of dravid is very poor.he need to learn frm Gangully, otherwise resign frm Indian Team.

Is Guru Greg be Good coach for india????????
I think he is not capable for Team India.Such a dishonest person and also breaking our team spirit he is not suitable person and Kiran More is a rushcale person doesn’t anything about cricket and gone to be a chief secletore of BCCI.If I am in that possion I had to teach him a leason.

I really don’t understand this Indian obsession with Ganguly. He just isn’t good enough any more. I don’t think Dravid’s captaincy is poor. He had England on the rack and let them get away, just like India are being allowed to wriggle free. Such things happen in cricket. Infuriating.

    Hello all!

Some thing in the wicket for tail enders I see, Kumble’s got to his 50 and Kaif throuh to his 80s. But to be fair to Apple Crumble, he’s not mug with the bat, and if I’m correct he has 7 first class centuries to his credit.

Nice test match this, keeps wagging this way and then that way.

Hi Zany, a typical England Test then, isn’t it? You just never know with these lads what is going to happen next. After last summer, I gave up on my fingernails. Makes typing easier too.

  • Jess wrote:

There are supposed to be 90 overs in a day, so they just play on until they’re all done (weather permitting). In this case, they didn’t quite get the full 90 overs in because they managed to take those late wickets.

Should be an exciting day tomorrow!

Quite a handy lead for England that, really puts Didn’t-touch-wood’s knock into perspective, and nice lad you guys have unearthed in Ponty. He can bowl. That delivery to Kaif was awesome.
