agreed…but then Aussies should be the last person to complain about his moaning. Did you hear Langer’s latest? That guy’s columns are epitome of hypocrisy.

South African sooks

You have to make allowances for the South Africans, but even still, one’s patience wears thin. They’ve been moaning about Australians since the start of December, and now that they are back home, they have turned up the moan level full bore. Mark Boucher seems to have taken over as ‘moaner in chief’. The Australians, you’ll be shocked, SHOCKED to hear, say ‘nasty things‘.
South Africans are the last people on earth to complain about others. Discuss!

Couldn’t agree more Scott, and said so in a recent post. Any side containing Andre Nel should not bring such matters.

It’d be a nice change to hear the players comment on what they think might happen in terms of the actual cricket. Rather than this ridiculous sniping that presumably is supposed to be some sort of psychological ploy.
I rather preferred England’s Ashes approach which generally seemed to be one of a rather smug and close-mouthed satisfaction that everything was going rather nicely - the opposition could bitch and moan but that England were a little above it.
Maybe Boucher has been enlisted to take over from Smith because Smith is suffering from some form of psychological sniping backfire….

The only reason England kept their mouths shut during the Ashes is they didn’t really think, until that last session, they were actually going to pull it off. Look what happened on the subsequent tour of Pakistan, when they started yapping and got confident…no cricketer international or not, is immune from this. All will sledge, many quite creatively, at any given opportunity.

After England drew level at Edgbaston, Flintoff was asked whether they’d go on to win the Ashes. ‘We’ve got to’ he said. That doesn’t sound like they didn’t think they could do it.
As for South Africans, think back to the 2003 Rugby World Cup, beforehand RSA skipper Corne Krige claimed England’s Martin Johnson is “one of the dirtiest captains in world rugby”. This from a man who had been cited more often than Casanova. Hypocrisy doesn’t even come close. It just means they’re rattled.

“We’ve got to” is wishful thinking, it isn’t “we’ve got them”, or “we’ll win 4 - 1″, like a player confident in the team around him would say…I maintain, as soon as England were confident, (Pakistan) they started with the chat just like everyone else, and you’ll see it all again later this year, on both sides.
You’ll see it from South Africa, every time, you see it from Sri Lanka and New Zealand and you’ll see it from every other nation that thinks they have half a chance in any given tournament.
I don’t think any side can take moral high ground on this issue, it’s just that the Aussies back it up more often (not always…) than most so they cop more stick for it from disgruntled fans…

I’m not sure I agree with Stu, but it’s an interesting point that the one Batsman who really consistently succeeded in Pakistan was Ian Bell, who perhaps had slightly less cause to be cocky and complacent than the rest of the squad.
He seems to be in lovely nick at the moment, really - I was also impressed with his play in the ODI series, but mystified at England playing him right down the order as a super-sub.

Its only fair to expect Trouble if that’s what you dish out; has anyone wondered why it only happens in Australia

Only in Australia! As I’ve said elsewhere “demigod” have you managed to cast an eye over any matches played in NZ or England recently, or even India in the past?
Ricky Ponting played under death threats in England. NZ crowds have been labelled the worst in the world. Players feared for their lives in India as recently as the 80s, however, to be fair, things have improved ALOT there now.
Time to open the other eye there demigod… You love to hate the Aussies, because they’re winning. When that changes (and it will) so will the attitudes.

Its not the attitudes of the Cricketing world that we’re talking about here Stu. Its not an Australia vs. Rest of the World thing, the issue raised here is of Crowd Behavior AGAINST the visiting team.
Yes the NZ crowds have been boisterous; in a recent Auckland match against the Aussies - there was rude behavior; but that’s an exception not a Norm.
While its the other way round in Oz and every single team will vouch for that. As I said earlier its got nothing to do with your team winning or losing.
