Australia v South Africa, 2nd Test, Melbourne, 1st day

By Will 5 years ago, at the end of December Add your comment below

Ah, the Boxing Day Test. Is there a better way to end Christmas for the cricket nut? After an invariably drunken Christmas Eve; a relentlessly gluttonous Christmas Day, Boxing Day is the dry, quiet come-down. The turkey demolished, the presents unwrapped – the complementary walk (I know we’re not the only ones who insist upon it. Perhaps it’s guilt, stemming from our ever bulging stomachs), and the more fastidious members of the family have been tidying up the sitting room as though their lives depend on it. It’s a day of reflection, of sobriety – and of cricket. Apart from the first Test of an English summer, it’s my favourite of the year. And it starts very soon (I’m writing this on the 23rd. See, fans? See the dedication, and honour my commitment!).

see, I’m here too! Had a moderate Christmas, only guilty of spilling red wine all over a white blouse and mum’s best linen table cloth. Opps.

Up early to hope for a brace of wickets and Nel did not disappoint. Thought Punter’s century was a bit of a party pooper, but congratulations to Jaques, Symonds and Gilchrist for getting into the spirit of the thing ;)

It’s even better being there :D Punter’s century was one of his better. I’ve been there for four of his hundreds, now.

Yes I did go to the second day Elliot, and Hussey’s century was even better. Amazing talent this fellow. Even better, for day two I was in the MCC members! :D Got some good photos that I look forward to publishing when I get home.

I am off to Albury and Canberra today though so my movements will be very intermittent until Jan 3 or so.

As an Englishwoman living in Europe, the envy of being unable to get to the Tests simply seeps from my skin. Get’s a bit slimy sometimes, understand? (Yuk!) Laugh! God, winter in Europe without cricket, wish I were with you!

And the Ashes next year as well!!! I’m Booking tickets soon for boxing day!!

Day 3 was good. This test has been set up to be a real thriller. I am really looking forward to spending the next few days at te Mighty “G”!
The game could go either way! 2 down for a 150 lead australia just need to keep going along at a steady pace. they will be looking to give themselves plenty of time to bowl South Africa out in the Seocond innings after there failed attempt at perth.
But if South Africa Claim 1 or 2 early wickets tommorow then they would have a fairly good chance of going to sydney with a win!
So like the last few days, the first session is going to be the important one!
First session day one, Ricky Ponting provides solid start for Australia.
First Session day two, Mike Hussey blasts his quick 100 with Glen McGrath managing to survive for a long time.
First Session day three, Australia take a couple of early wickets and put themselves in comanding spot, but South Africa maaged to consolidate a little before then end of the day!
    First session day FOUR……………..

Guess I am the only sad bugger on the European continent with nothing better to do than watching cricket. Elliot, hope you are really having a great day! :)
