Cricinfo magazine

Sambit Bal, our Editor at Cricinfo, has been heavily involved in launching Cricinfo’s latest offering: Cricinfo Magazine. It’s primarily aimed at the Indian market, but it’s perhaps a sign of things to come: web-to-print (in part, at least). Can’t wait to see the first edition.

Forgive me for being a little cynical, but why is this going to do better than Wisden Cricket Asia, and while we’re at it, what happened to Wisden Cricket Asia anyway? The only mention I can find of anything to do with WCA folding is a very small snippet of news in one or two of the Indian online newspaper presences, which just say that it isn’t being produced any more, and allude to possible ‘technical difficulties’.

The announcement of the new magazine on Wisden Cricinfo said that WCA was ‘acclaimed’, but anyone can say that their work is acclaimed without attributing that acclaim anywhere – some of my internet work is often ‘acclaimed’ by my best friend, for example.

Sorry – I enjoy this blog, but I am finding myself becoming increasingly disillusioned with Wisden Cricinfo, which appears not to care as much as it should for journalistic responsibility and high standards, especially when you consider that it is one of the top global cricket brands and arguably the most well-recognised sport websites.

Hmm. Seems I missed this comment, RL, sorry about that. I’m interested in what you said though. I’m particularly concerned about your thoughts on “journalistic responsibility and high standards”, something we work tirelessly on not only maintaining, but improving. What, unless your opinion has since changed, has irritated you in what you’ve read on the site?
