Good morning, everyone. This one could go any way. 4 different results still possible. Does anyone have any fingernails left?
It is absolutely freezing here, but have a big blanket and a pot of tea. Cheers.

    up and ready..
lets see if hair will issue another warning and award 5 runs to england..
that will make the match really interesting

wraye, i wish it was cooler.. nice and warm here on the cote d’azur..
really tense… i’ll be cheering every run by pakistan now.. inzi is the key for pk..

nooo.. rana goes.. what in the world is he doing.. flashing at wide deliveries

  • Wraye wrote:
    November 24th, 2005 at 4.43 am

heee, Rana goes to Harmy in the second over! Do you think England are starting to take this game seriously now ;)

ooohhh, and that last ball was soooo close!

  • Mani wrote:
    November 24th, 2005 at 4.47 am

wraye, i don’t know how you can follow the game on radio.. i would probably go bald… pulling out my hair if i just had audio..
freddie is getting major reverse swing going..
    almost had akhtar
inzi is taking singles… he should be protecting the tail!
what do you think about my theory of inzi coming earlier in the innings.. he always seems to get stuck with the tailenders… what a waste of his batting

  • Aniruddh Gupta wrote:
    November 24th, 2005 at 4.49 am

I’d fancy England’s chances if they’re chasing 230 odd… they can’t implode in two successive games

  • Mani wrote:
    November 24th, 2005 at 4.50 am

england have everybody on the boundary for inzi..
that results in inzi taking a single off the first ball.. and exposing akthar for the rest of the deliveries..
i guess every run counts so inzi is going for whatever he can get instead of refusing runs early in the over to keep the strike and protect akhtar

  • Mani wrote:
    November 24th, 2005 at 4.52 am

the key for pakistan is not just runs but also eating up overs..
there are too many overs still left in the game..
the total overs are 94 for the day
and we’ll get all of them in.. because england can stay on the pitch instead of taking the offer of bad light..
pk needs to burn overs to get the england required run rate up..
a required run rate of 3 or under is going to be very easy for england.

Morning everyone. Some fiend has given me a cold. I’m not happy.

Although I’d be a lot happier if England could get these last three wickets…

  • Wraye wrote:

Aniruddh, guess you haven’t seen Englang play very often? ;)

It is really hard just listening to the radio, but better than nothing. I have seen a lot of cricket over the years so I play a sort of video in my head - totally dependant on the quality of the commentry, of course! Thank goodness for long wave radio and the Internet. I would have bought Internet coverage but I have so much work at this time of the year, the radio is more practical for me right now. Inzy is starting to look more aggressive now.

Jess, you poor thing. Same here - and have a romantic date tomorrow too (cricket dinner).

Keep warm! Take plenty of tea and vitamin C! and 3 wickets ;)

    site is slow again today

  • Wraye wrote:

    site okay for me today.

Inzy is really doing his best to make it hard for England, isn’t he? Respect.

P.S. Happy birthday, Beefy. Ian Botham is 50 today. Frightening to think I first saw him almost 30 years ago. Okay, he was just sitting in a car and I was peeping out of the front room window, blushing and waving. Dumb teenager.

  • Mani wrote:

botham since yesterday has been saying heading towards draw.. heading towards draw..
    while that might be true..

bugger! Strauss drops Inzy at deep mid wicket. What a blunder of major proportions!

  • Mezba wrote:
    November 24th, 2005 at 6.03 am

During the Ashes everyone contrasted Ricky’s captaincy (fluttered, angry, unimaginitive) with Vaughan’s. I wonder how much of that was because England is winning. Here Inzamam is scoring runs, led imaginitively in the first test, especially on the last day, while Vaughan has been missing in action, has not scored a lot of runs as captain (opposite of Inzamam) and so on. Victory does strange things.

As for the game itself, Pakistan as of now lead by 258 runs with 2 wickets remaining. 50 more runs and I can breathe easy for them.

  • Wraye wrote:
    November 24th, 2005 at 6.36 am

Mezba, an English captain losing his form is an old, old tradition. He could never be a good captain without that! ;)
But Vaughen is obviously the better captain. I just have the feeling that Inzy is a leader of a talented bunch of individuals while V actally leads a team. Inzy could have done far more damage to us if he had done more homework - especially with regards field placings, just like Ponting, Fleming and Lara before him - and I have the greatest respect for all of them. Ponting really blew his bottle in England, didn’t he?
I haven’t agreed with everything that Vaughen does or did, but then I am not the one out there under pressure. Having said that, I don’t much like the way Vaughen is coasting close to breaking the spirit of the game while staying within the technical Laws.

Must be off now, otherwise, going to be late for work!

    tresco gone on a duck..
    bowled by akhtar..
    what a delivery..
    tresco was leaving the delivery..
but the ball swung back in and took his off stump..
what a sight.. stump flying off..
glad to see pk wants to win this one

this is getting interesting. Vaughan needs to do a Ponting here to save the test; though KP could repeat his Oval heroics as well.

I don’t think its over…its in Pakistan’s favour…but these two should look to win…atleast that would help disperse the field.

Also the pitch is still flat, the bounce fairly even, Kaneria fairly flat in this match. So its all upto Akhtar’s few bursts, and how much reverse they get after 30 overs or so.

  • Wraye wrote:
    November 24th, 2005 at 8.47 am

You guys are sweet - trying to be kind, I know. But I’m really afraid that some English plonker (mention no names) will try to be a hero.

I can feel it coming. Tailenders defending to save the draw and running like bunnies at the first call of bad light.

  • worma wrote:
    November 24th, 2005 at 8.51 am

Wraye: not being kind so much as fearing a resurgent Pakistan team…guess who’s touring them next ;-)

No but seriously, knowing the Pakistan team, a partnership between these two till team (with whatever runs they get) and they would start panicking

The run rate is at about 5 an over if we use all the overs. What are the odds on an England victory now? Do you rekcon KP might fancy his chances?

  • Wraye wrote:

Mr Plonkerson can’t fancy his chances much back in the pavilion, can he?

Wow, good morning from Canada, just woke up (went to sleep before lunch) and wow! Inzamam actually brave enough to declare. Anyone agree with me that it’s Shoaib that caused this turnaround in Pakistan’s fortune? I remember in New Zealand when pakistan toured recently it was Shoaib destroying the NZ each match so even though Pakistani batters failed, they still won well. So it shows all Shoaib needed was some kick in the pants threat to get him going.

  • Christopher wrote:

How much longer until they’re offered the light? Long enough for freddie to get his ton?

Jess, 3B, Clino, Sean, Elliot, Chris, I need advice!

How did you survive 4 epic games in a row! I’m in a mess after 2! I can’t stand this, this is torture! I want a big, clear cut innings win for us in Lahore. Let’s win the toss again Inzi, you can get 300 and Butt will get 200, we’ll be put 700 and then we’ll try and bowl out England twice, if we manage that utopia! Otherwise, let’s keep them 1-0.

No more last day drama please…I saw the Ashes, and I backed England then, but it was no way near this testing , guess it all changes when you own team is involved!

  • Wraye wrote:
    November 24th, 2005 at 10.08 pm

Zany, you obviously love cricket and you have your own lovely blog - will visit more often when I have the time, but I have bad news. It does not get any better over time. You do not survive. A part of you dies with every lost wicket and a part of you soars to the heavens and sings with the angels at each century, especially during a Banglasdesh vs Australia OD in Cardiff. Okay, that’s going over the top, but you understand the idea. Loved your blog about avoiding a nervous breakdown, by the way - but no way can you stay in just 1 chair!

At the end of the day, it is just a game. You get on with life/family/school/job. It doesn’t really matter who wins, it’s how the game is played.

    Until it’s your team …

    …and they’re losing …

    aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

    ;)

  • Zainub - Zany wrote:
    November 24th, 2005 at 10.35 pm

Good you like my blog, Clin’s been the inspiration behind it so I guess I should thank him.

And, yeah, it’s a terrible feeling losing. Always.

BTW I couldn’t manage that one chair point either :) . Had to get out to get more water. And couldn’t prevent my self from going a bit out of control when you guys where 20-4, I don’t think I sat down at all during that phase! :)
