I was asked this question by Hector and I didn’t know the answer completely. What do the Muslim countries (Pakistan, Bangladesh) do when it’s time for prayer? Do they take a prayer break? Or they incorporate it in the drinks break or 2-over-break rule for fielders? I am aware that if you are travelling you can delay prayers.

Narrowly beating Harmison’s sweep off one of the Aussie quicks in the NatWest challenge match at The Oval… Botham’s commentary summed it up well, for once: “In case you were wondering, that shot was by Steve Harmison”

Irfan Pathan is another bowler who is now playing some excellent reverse sweeps. Shaun Udal was for me the bowler-who-could-bat of the morning.

What about Hoggy’s cover drive?

Mezba, I asked this question of a
Pakistani cricket friend of mine, and they can get special dispensation to continue play during prayers from the muezzin (?) There is a special word for it, but I forget it. Either, the players get permission before, or have to say sorry afterwards for missing prayers. It isn’t a big deal.
As for shot of the year, boo hoo. Sniff. I can’t SEE the play over here!

mezba, players if they are really that religious can make up for the players during match time after the match. They would only miss one prayer at about lunch time..
a lot of people in pk do not pray 5 times a day… and some others only pray once a week on fridays.. kind of like going to church on sunday

This inspired a Guardian article about how Harmison should be moved up to No 9. Aren’t his two brothers both very capable batsmen?
I’ll never forget him top-scoring with 46ish in South Africa last year. Fantastic to listen to; boundary followed boundary, and the TalkSport commentators were cracking up, absolutely loving it.
Give Harmy more of the bat, and get KP training his spin back to standard. Seriously though, Afridi is what I reckon KP could be, given the development. Let’s be a whole team of all-rounders ![]()

Ah, here we are:

Top scored the innings with 42 runs in 42 balls, seven fours and a six. He was bowling like a trollop, but he had a fairly good time with the bat, that tour.
