*Not too exciting. Please. I’ve got work to do.

Darnation. Shipping forecast. Not so slow now, for whatever reason.

Naughty-boy Afridi on to bowl. Possibly because of the warning to Kaneria?

    50 for Bell! Great effort.

Good morning, everyone! Site was impossibly slow for me this morning - only just got you online.

  • Jess wrote:
    November 22nd, 2005 at 5.56 am

Same here, Wraye. Nice effort by England so far, I thought - played through the nervous first few overs with the aid of a bit of luck, but better now.

  • Wraye wrote:
    November 22nd, 2005 at 6.07 am

This is more like it - this is real Test cricket. Remember the good, old days. Ticking along at 2 or three an over and nothing happens for hours, with TMS mumbling along in the background on a glorious summer’s day.

My nerves can’t cope with much more of this gut-churning, nail-biting scandal-ridden whiz bang play. Plus it is pitch-black freezing fog out there, I’m coming down with a cold and have to go to work now.

KP got away with that ball, didn’t he? and his 50 up.

  • Jess wrote:
    November 22nd, 2005 at 6.10 am

Oh dear - hope you feel better soon. Plenty of hot drinks.

Blimey. Bullets on the pitch. That’s probably more excitement than any of the players need ;)

  • Mani wrote:

KP seems about ready to tee off now that he’s past a solid base of 50

First session safely negotiated, and we seem to have ground to a halt again…

  • Jess wrote:

6 for KP. Knew he wouldn’t be able to resist for long :)

  • Wraye wrote:

and another one gets him his hundred - thank God. I can breathe again now!

and the silly sod gets himself out immediately afterwards - admiration turns to disgust.

  • Jess wrote:
    November 22nd, 2005 at 8.19 am

100 up for KP and then out, oh well. Nice to see him get runs on the board, bit reckless but I don’t think you can blame him for that.

Not so much a chat as a monologue this morning, obviously.

  • worma wrote:
    November 22nd, 2005 at 8.28 am

Why won’t you blame him for that? In cricket, and especially test cricket, its the responsibility of the man of the moment to play responsibly. And that too in such dire situation.

Having survived the horrid times early on he should have cashed in big time. Now Eng still has chances of losing this badly.

  • Wraye wrote:
    November 22nd, 2005 at 8.29 am

I’ll keep you company, Jess. Boycs had a point tho, didn’t he? KP has now exposed Freddy to the new ball - oooh, almost dropped. Fred’s not playing too well, is he?

At least we have awarded the follow on. That would have been truly miserable.

  • Wraye wrote:
    November 22nd, 2005 at 8.31 am

oops - should have read “avoided”.

Do you thing Shohaib will lose more match fees for making chicken noises when KP got out?

  • Mani wrote:
    November 22nd, 2005 at 8.36 am

wraye, shoaib flapped his arms like a chicken.. not sure about noises..
    when will these ppl learn..
he was just fined yesterday for logos on his gloves.. one would think that he would be more careful.
i think he couldn’t control it because he was super pissed off at KP for the six on the previous ball.. fast bowlers can really get riled up and lose it when they’re running in and firing the ball at 95mph and then see it sailing over the fence for 6.. so when he got the wicket the next ball on another attempted six.. he lost it a bit..

  • Mani wrote:
    November 22nd, 2005 at 8.38 am

what a sight.. freddie loses his middle stump
    go akhtar

  • Jess wrote:
    November 22nd, 2005 at 8.39 am

Sorry worma - I realised after I’d posted that what I’d written that it didn’t say quite what I wanted it too, so I’ll try again; KP was daft in going for the shot, but it was a good ball that behaved differently to the type that he’d got used to over the previous session. It wasn’t quite the same type of stupid dismissal as the Multan match. Hope that makes more sense.

And balls, Flintoff’s gone, making Boyc’s point comprehensively, I’d say.

  • Wraye wrote:
    November 22nd, 2005 at 8.41 am

Hi again, Mani. He must be riled. He is bowling very well but sending down a few no-balls.

Shame about Fred. Just had a feeling he is not on form with the bat - and KP left him to face that pace with a new ball. Pffff!

  • Mani wrote:

ian bell gets a let off.. dropped by butt..
    pakistan has droped many today..
i think the whole team spirit suffered from afridi’s antics

  • Jess wrote:

100 for Bell - let’s hope he can stick around.

  • Mani wrote:

very well played.. made most of the chance he got when the pk keeper missed the stumping chance before he got his 50

cricinfo working just fine for me chris..
but i’ve had problems accessing this blog.. very slow earlier

  • Wraye wrote:

Christopher, cricinfo does that sometimes, though it’s ok for me today. Try the BBC or timesonline if you get stuck.

I had problems getting into the blog too

  • Caroline wrote:

I haven’t been able to get the blog since just after close last night. Will, when you’ve finished being a superstar journo, what’s going on?

Not bad efforts from Bell and KP, by the sounds of it.

  • worma wrote:
    November 22nd, 2005 at 9.46 am

Those having problem with cricinfo…reason - there’s an Indian match ongoing..so a few million hits for that(while we wait for the rain to stop at Chennai) ;-)

  • Christopher wrote:

I think Geraint and Gilo are due centuries. A first innings lead of 2 hundred perhaps?

    Christopher, I like your thinking . . .!

  • SpryCorpse wrote:

I think England have done very well judging by the scorecard at the moment. This match looks like setting up for a good finish.

  • Wraye wrote:
    November 22nd, 2005 at 10.07 am

now that would be a glorious thing!

Ah, I hear England women are struggling in India as well :(

  • worma wrote:
    November 22nd, 2005 at 10.11 am

Wraye, actually English women doing pretty well right now. Restricted India, 240/5 at one stage, to 289 allout. Now lets see if atleast they can play spin ;-)

  • Wraye wrote:
    November 22nd, 2005 at 10.24 am

    they can’t, Worma. 55-5 :(

  • worma wrote:

Actually all 5 wkts taken by pace-women. I know Fletcher won’t be happy ;-)

  • Elliott wrote:

    Well i’m here as well.
Kinda half watching and half doing other things.
Looks like Bell had been batting alritet then?

  • worma wrote:
    November 22nd, 2005 at 10.35 am

Elliott, I saw a portion of his innings. Chancy, never really got on top…but hey, those are still 100+ runs.

  • Wraye wrote:
    November 22nd, 2005 at 10.38 am

Laugh! I really wish all of you lot could hear this! Boycott on TMS is going on about his Mum and rhubarb again!

  • Elliott wrote:
    November 22nd, 2005 at 10.39 am

Well you can’t see drop catchs in the scorebook ;)
But he must be batting better than he did in the ashes.

  • Wraye wrote:
    November 22nd, 2005 at 10.52 am

actually Elliott, using the linear method, you can see the dropped catches! a small c above the dot or run does the trick. x means played and missed.

  • worma wrote:
    November 22nd, 2005 at 11.02 am

Elliott: Not playing better than Ashes. They just don’t have Warne down there in Pakistan.

    Has anyone seen this yet?

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/cricket/england/4459234.stm

“England’s cricketers are hoping to top the charts at Christmas after recording a charity single”

Oh. My. God. And it’s not even April 1st. Could be either hilarious or completely cringeworthy. Possibly both at the same time. They could have Goughie strutting his stuff in the video…

I think we’re going to win this test match. Should be good fun tomorrow. I’m still unhappy with Afridi though, the referee said he apologised but there was no indication of any regret in his body language. Still goofing around, smiling away, playing around! He let the whole of Pakistan down, how can he behave as if he’s done nothing a day after! I would have preferred to see his wicket celebrations be a little less animated then they were. And a slightly less intimidating body language also.

BTW where our our KP-lovers? Astonishing that they haven’t come here and posted on the cricket given Skunk for a change has actually made some runs!!! And also that in this match he took his 2nd catch… very strange, I haven’t popped over at the factor since the 1st, but I’ll go and have a look now if alll is well with Monique and co.

  • Wraye wrote:

Yeah, where are the girls after KPs century? No discussion of his pics on cricinfo?

I think it will go for a draw. England will probably bat out the tail rather that declare to try for a lead - even if only a couple of runs - psychologically “positive” - read here, aggressive. England cannot win this, we cannot possibly hope to bowl Pakistan out on this wicket on the 4th day. Hoggy did heroic wonders in SA but this is a completely different situation. We will just run out of time.

    Sleep well, see ya tomorrow.
