Australia v World XI, Super Test, Sydney, Day Two

So. Australia 331 for 6. I didn’t see all the highlights of yesterday’s play - couldn’t stomach it really. Despite my couldn’t-really-care-less attitude, I still want the World XI to put up a fight. Day two - chat away

Well there you go. Flintoff vs Gilchrist = Aussie collapse. Considering Gilly hadn’t been out lbw to a quicky before, that’s three now in about three tests. Why oh why didn’t Smith bring Freddie on earlier?

I hav’t been able to watch any of the play today as i was playing cricket myself! (don’t even bother asking how we did!) But i did follow a bit on the radio. Aussies firm favourites in the 3 day “SUPER” test!
There has been talks of mabey a couple of ODI’s or twenty20 games to fill in the extra couple of days! Probly a good idea though!

What a let down. I can’t decide whether it’s due to the non-England players just being massively inferior to Australia, or that they just don’t care. I suspect it’s the latter. The Aussies desperately want this to mean something, and they even seem to be believing their own publicity again - with Langer, McGrath and Warne all doing their usual mind-games before the Test. It’s almost as though the Ashes Series has been wiped from history as far as they’re concerned - fortunately, Harmison and Flintoff have given the Aussie public a taste of what’s to come next year. You can count me of that “we”. I never had great expectations for this event, and I was so ****** off with the ICC for staging it, that I actually wanted it to be a flop â€“ which is precisely what has happened. When you decide to play around with the sanctity of test matches, and award meaningless exhibition matches like this full test status, this is exactly what you deserve to get, SHAME ON THE ICC.

There are though, a few positives to come out from the day’s play - all the proceedings will go to earth quake relief funds â€“ and the four of Andrewâ€™s sixes; they were good to watch too. As was Sehwagâ€™s innings â€¦ good catching by the Aussies all the way â€¦ they werenâ€™t this sharp in England. And Warneâ€™s still bowling mesmeirsing-lyâ€¦which must be a scary thought if youâ€™re an English fan. And more worrying is the fact that even Stuart McGill looked just about as threatening, 2007 is going to be anything BUT easy one gets the feeling.

I am not watching any of this, just following on cricinfo. But still teh few asian players you would think would play much better against spin.
I think there is also the issue of trying to make a team within a month. It takes longer than that for people to figure out how to play together!!
But they should have tried it a few times before they gave it test status. Especially in times when people are complaining about the test status assigned to Bangaldesh or Kenya!

OK - I know it is the SCG and all but I cannot help but think it confirms my belief that Aus missed an ashes trick by not playing MacGill instead of GillesPIE - after all they played 2 spinners throught 1993 series if memory serves me right.

Yup, it’s bizarre and I feel for MacGill. He’s a wonderful bowler and compliments Warne perfectly. Dread to think how the Ashes would have panned out with those two in the side. MacGill would walk into any Test side in the world - and that’s disregarding his hopeless batting and fielding (although, in fact, perhaps those are the selectors’ gripes with him)
