    Gough signs for….Strictly come Dancing?

By Will 3 years ago, at the end of September Leave a comment on this post

Oh my God. Tufnell’s “I’m a former cricketer, get me some publicity” was bad enough. But this? This is just woeful. Darren Gough in the BBC Strictly Come Dancing competition.

I wonder if he would have been such a tempting proposition for the BBC without the current Cricket bandwagon? At least it’s not Trescothick - his footwork’s awful!

Isn’t it once of Boycott’s fav lines “He should get down the Disco more, get his feet moving” although I would imagine he’d just brand Goughies dancing adventures as plain “silly”.

From spin & seam to dancing queen?

Am sure there are many more where that came from!

Interesting choice of alternate profession. So this is the rest he sought!

Is there anyone else that noticed that Goughie is an exception to the phenomena that celebrities always look taller in films/photos than in real life.

He always, both on TV and in photos looks really short but in reality (according to Google) is 5ft 11in which is pretty tall.

I undertand that on TV he’s often next to much taller bowlers which doesn’t help but even on the photo above he looks like a short arse. The dancer girl looks nearly as tall as him…

I guess it’s his… ahem.. ’stocky’ frame that creates this illusion…

Mark [5] - she’s wearing heels! Even so, 5′ 11″ is probably only average for a man of his age and loads of young women are only three or so inches shorter than that - you can often see female six-footers nowadays, not like when I were a lad

Surely it’s Goughie’s way of saying that the effort of remaining international class at his age is no longer worth the candle. He’s a Tyke for heavens’ sake, you can’t expect him to do it the Jason Robinson “new man” way…

“ven so, 5′ 11″ is probably only average for a man of his age”

Damn, I stopped growing at 18!

I’m 6 foot, or a smidgen under, and don’t feel tall or even above average. Talking of tall women: I saw a girl who was at least 6 foot 4 on the tube on Friday. Her boyfriend also got on, and he was almost definately 6 foot 8; a frightening sight! Tall women are very, very unnerving.

My point wasn’t really whether 5′11″ is tall or not. I just meant that Tom Cruise looks taller in photos than the 5′7″ he actually is whereas Gough looks about 5′7″ in photos but is actually a fair bit taller.

And as a short arse 5′8″ (which i read somewhere was the average height of British males..) myself I can say I think 5′11″ is pretty tall. What I would give to be 6 foot.. especially at concerts. What is it with tall people that they always stand right in front of short people at concerts when you’ve just spend a half hour positioning yourself to get a half decent glimpse of the stage..?? Sorry for the O.T rant!

The thing is you know there was some lame post-Ashes brainstorm at the BBC, when some inexperienced researcher goes, “I know - a cricketer. Can we get Freddie?”

I don’t reckon that picture’s real. His head looks small and oddly coloured. They used to put pictures like that in Viz with Shakin’ Stevens.

Knowing his form on tour, he’ll try it on with someone backstage, be in the middle pages of the Sunday Mirror by November, and the ‘more time with the family’ excuse will have disappeared along with his England 1 day career.

I’m backing Dennis Taylor as the ‘dark horse’candidate.

On reflection Goughie probably thinks he might pick up a bit of spare after hearing about Shane Watson’s missus running off with that dancer on the Aussie equivilant.

Yeah. Its called “Dancing With the Stars” down here. I don’t watch it (got better thiings to do ;) ) I don’t think we have had any cricketers on it though. Only Shanes missus.

I’m six feet four tall and so everyone under six feet is a short arse I’m afraid.

Cricketers have always been height sadists!
When Paul Strang played for Kent his nick name was,apparently,”Stump”-He is 5′9″! I could understand it if he was a genuine short arse (like me-5′7″!)

Come now Will, what’s so scary about a tall woman?
I’m 5′11” and very handy for reaching things.

OMG! These days cricketers do anything. Just saw a horrible advert on TV featuring Shoiab akhtar!

I think Darren Gough was certainly a deserved winner in the Strictly Come Dancing Strictly Special, but it was a high standard anyway. I’m sure he was helped along by the lovely professional dancer, Lilia Kopylova.
If there is a cricketer in the next series watch out!
    Excellent viewing.
