(It’s Maine Road – or was. They don’t play there anymore, they play at the City of Manchester or Eastlands stadium.)
Regardless, the real reason I started typing was to ask – in light of this news, is Flintoff the new Amir Khan?

Just seen on the box that Flintoff walked out on Maine Road (that’s a football ground I think – he didn’t stumble, drunkedly, onto a main road, although I imagine he probably did the other day) to watch his “beloved” Man City, and he received a massive standing ovation and applause.
Blinkin’ brilliant that is. I don’t know how many were at the game, but it’s terrific to see and hear these cricketers receiving the praise they deserve. Especially that bloody legend, Andrew Flintoff.

Oops, thanks Geoff. In what respect is Flintoff the new Khan? The sense of “quickly into the limelight, even quicker out of it”?
In the sense that Amir Khan was wheeled out at Bolton’s Reebok stadium several times following his Olympic silver medal, and Flintoff is no longer ‘the new Botham.’ I feel it isn’t right to talk about him without prefixing his name with ‘the new …’

One of the things that made Brearley a great captain was his ability to get the most out of Botham … now that we’ve answered the ‘Is Flintoff the new Botham’, perhaps we should start asking ‘Is Vaughan the new Brearley’ (apart from the batting of course …)
