Cricket in the Park - Trent Bridge and The Oval

UPDATE: 31 August 2005, the clapham common venue has been changed to Regent’s Park. More info here.
The ECB have extended their Cricket in the Park events, which is brilliant news. As written about on Cricinfo:
Cricket in the Park extended
Due to overwhelming demand, the ECB’s Cricket in the Park events have been extended for the fourth and fifth Tests between England and Australia.
Such has been the demand for tickets for this summer’s Ashes that the ECB introduced these events to cater for those unlucky enough to miss out on attending the Tests, providing a big screen and a taste of Ashes atmosphere. For the first Test at Lord’s, a giant screen was erected in Regent’s Park, where 3,500 people turned up on the Friday, and 8,000 the following day.
The Saturday and Sunday’s play of the fourth Ashes Test at Trent Bridge (August 27 and 28) will be shown on a giant screen in Wollaton Park, Nottingham. The Saturday and Sunday’s play of the fifth Ashes Test at The Brit Oval (September 10 and 11) will also be shown on a screen in Clapham Common, South London.
Tom Harrison, marketing manager for the ECB, said in a statement released this afternoon: “The big screens in Wollaton Park and Clapham Common will give those fans that can’t get tickets for the matches the chance to join in and experience the unprecedented excitement of this Ashes series with thousands of others - if they’re anything like the previous events, they’ll be fantastic!”

Some of my friends were at the earlier events and had a great time. Thank God, the ECB have finally recognised and are doing something for those who really love and support cricket - the spectators. The bloodsuckers have a heart.
May this be a lesson to them, next time they go for a media deal.

Hurrah! I may travel to both from Manchester just to show my gratitude!
I would like to think that mine and my fellow bloggers emails to the ECB played a part!

Damn, I’m working the Saturday and Sunday of the Oval match. Thought I might rock up dead early, say 5ish, on the Monday - The Oval’s just up the road from me - but it seems they’ve sold out the entire 5 days.
Looks like a beer and my sofa then…

I was at the first Cricket in the Park on the Friday of the Lords test. 2 bottles of wine before lunch, a 3rd during dinner and tucked into the Pimms in the afternoon. Had to have a little snooze after tea and was genuinly shocked to see the Aussies 7 down! Great day.
Thought your readers may want to see Brett Lee get caught hook line and sinker by some pranksters at Old Trafford.
It’s superb schoolboy stuff and he takes it quite well:

With the overwhelming support for England continuing into the final Test at the Oval, surely it makes commercial sense to extend the Cricket in the park to all days of the game, but especially days 1 and 2 ???!!! Tickets are being touted at £850 each way beyond the reach of all but the most affluent Corporates! Respond to the fans and we will turn up!!

Is the fifth Test actually being shown on Clapham Common? I read in a newspaper the other day that Clapham Common had refused permission to put up a big screen there and the ecb were actually negotiating to hold it in regent’s park instead. Anyone know anything about this?

Someone asked about bringing booze etc
For the first test, one thing that irked was that you couldn’t take beeer out of the Fosters enclosure and closer up near the screen. But of course, nothing to stop you having some refreshments with your picnic anywhere in the park
hope that helps
