Andrew Flintoff: BBC Sports Personality 2005?

By Will 3 years ago, mid-August Leave a comment on this post

Last year, last November to be exact, I wrote:

Flintoff’s odds are pretty good, at 9/4 in becoming BBC’s Sports personality of the year. Awesome year he’s had, I don’t think Cricket is yet in the nation’s hearts…especially with fellow runners (pardon the pun) Kelly Holmes and Matthew Pinsent…

If 2004 was “awesome” (note to self: find a better adjective), 2005 is promising to be even better. Two interesting things: Cricket is now, most certainly, in the nationa’s hearts and that could really win it for Fred. And also, funnily enough, the odds are exactly the same for his chances this year: 9/4. Aint that funny, folks? Also note that Michael Vaughan is 16/1 - a rank outsider, largely dependant on his winning the Ashes (or not). Wonder when the last time two cricketers were up for nomination of the award…
