Filching content off Richie Benaud, aye? Good. If you are going to steal, steal off the best, that is my motto.
Trescothick reaches 5000 milestone
By Will 3 years ago, mid-August Leave a comment on this post
Marcus Trescothick hit his 5000th Test match run today at Old Trafford against Australia. Interestingly, only Jack Hobbs (55 matches), Len Hutton (55), Wally Hammond (59) and Ken Barrington (61) have reached 5000 Test runs for England in fewer matches than Trescothick (64). Nice stat. Update: Viv Richards and Bill Lawry also reached 5000 Test runs in 64 matches.
Second update:

‘fraid so. I’m laid up in bed today with the TV on, so…my brain can’t muster interesting stats, so I’ll leave R.Benaud to do it ![]()

The best of day 4 is simply this - that if you had known before play started that in England’s second innings Trescothick, Vaughan, KP and Freddie would get 60 between them you’d've assumed that Australia would be very handily placed.
Even if Australia get out of jail (with some help from the local weather) they know that none of the England batsmen fear their bowlers any more.
And I hope that Vaughan does some net bowling, too (are you listening, Fletch :)?)

Innocent Abroad,
Very good observation. Spot on. I hadn’t thought of that one.
Get Well Will.

That’s heady company. I’d be interested to know how much difference it makes if you take out matches against Bangladesh, but still - well done Marcus Trescothick. You may have a name that sound like the hero of a historical romance novel, but you can clearly bat.
