Australia at Arundel Castle v PCA XI

By Will 3 years ago, mid-June Leave a comment on this post

As mentioned a couple of days ago, Australia play their traditional tour-opener against a PCA XI (with some useful names - see below) at Arundel Castle. Including one Kevin Pietersen, who - I’m sure - is not there merely for the crowd’s entertainment. Keep a very close eye on this one - there is no such thing as a friendly, relaxed game of cricket against Australia. A quick 50 by him, and his case for inclusion will get even stronger. Starts 4.30pm (2 hours time)

Easy win for Aussies, Pietersen failed, and should I suspect a double-bluff in Chris Tremlett’s figues or did he just bowl well?

What exactly do you mean by a double-bluff regarding the performance of Chris Tremlett………..?
Don’t tell me, an old apocryphal scenario where the Australians would play an Englishman into the International side by letting him take wickets/score runs in warm-up games then destroy him when the bigger games arrive.
The hype regarding the Aussies has already reached fever pitch and this is just a further example of the same.
    Utter nonsense………….

I agree with your comments about Pietersen - exciting and something to watch, but an unfortunate pattern may now be arising (I write this with hind-sight of course although I did call it earlier ) - in that the Aussies make a point of targeting these types, early on and wrecking their careers - (ask Cullinan (SA), Sinclair (NZ) or even Graeme Hick (Eng))
Good luck to Kevin though, hopefully he can add some spice to the English side this series.

Just returned home from Arundel where I had a fantastic time. I took over a minibus of our colts team and they were treated to some excellent cricket and the chance to get up close with the Ausies.

I must say how impressed I was by all of the Australian players. They were very willing to sign hundreds of autographs, talk and mingle with the crowd and even let my kids join in with the warm-ups.

The result was never really in much doubt although it was almost dark by the time the game finished.

I’ve uploaded a few of my pictures which you can find here.

Thanks for the photos Martin, good stuff. Sounded like a brilliant day out. The Aussies have definately made a concerted effort with their PR, and it’s good to see: your kids will never forget “training with the Aussies”, and that can only be a good thing.
