Roebuck on Flintoff: ye chucker ye

No doubt you’ll have read this - if not, read it now, and if so, read it again. More proof, if more were needed, that Roebuck is a mole for the ACB.

Looks fine to me. A flick of the wrist is not a problem, and the arm looks straight enough. He’s certainly not a [quick fast bowler for Australia] or a [slow Sri Lankan bowler] or even a [fast-medium pacer for Sussex].

A load of chucking nonsense if you ask me…

you can call me a pommie basher, but i’ve been convinced about the fact that flintoff chucks for the last 2-3 years now, ever since he started bowling more and more. his effort ball is as dubious as say brett lee’s.

I wonder how straight Roebuck’s arm was when he chose to admisminister a thrashing to those young lads he was coaching a few years back.
Spanker Roebuck has fled to Australia to escape further ridicule and he is now an embittered, somewhat twisted but well educated man.
I guess public school can do that to these plummy voiced types, even if they have an adopted Aussie twang to hide behind.
By the way, Roebuck was a boring batsman in his Somerset days and could only aspire to Flintoff’s obvious talents in his wildest fantasy.
Worryingly however, we are fully aware what Roebuck’s fantasies entail and it isn’t to emulate Flintoff but to perhaps punish him for an imaginary bent arm after cricket practice is over.

You are probably right although I am suggesting that Roebuck has an axe to grind regarding English cricket.
Quite simply, if Flintoff is a chucker then so are almost all pace bowlers who are currently playing international cricket around the world including Glenn McGrath who has a similar arm action.
For Roebuck to suggest Flintoff has a suspect action a few months after the laws were amended to cater for bowlers such as Muralitharan to continue to bowl their doosra is laughable. It suggests that the ex-Somerset blocker has become completely embittered about anything English.
Roebuck has contributed nothing to the literary side of cricket and during his playing career his main claim to fame was his part in the dismantling of a great county side at Somerset with Viv Richards, Ian Botham and Joel Garner leaving the club acrimoniously.

Roebuck certainly gives the impression of being emittered and scornful, and over the years his critiscm of England has been justified. But, although Jagadish won’t agree, it’s no longer justifiable. This very specific attack on Flintoff is fair enough, and he’s allowed his opinion, but I just feel there are other bowlers with more questionable bowling actions. Incidentally, I always felt Darren Gough’s to be slightly less than legal…but it’s so difficult to tell, and is more often that not subjective. With Brett Lee in their team, I don’t think the Aussies will be saying much about Fred’s action in the summer.

I have to say that I have no ongoing interest in cricket, simply a passing curiosity but after viewing some of Flintoff’s deliveries from various angles, there certainly seems, on some deliveries, to be a straightening of the arm. Flintoff’s bowling action is very front on, reminiscent of Courtney Walsh, with that same arm action that brings the ball across the front of him before he delivers. From my vantage point, everything seems ok, until he reaches the point of release, where it seems not his wrist, but his entire forearm flicks down on the ball. Whether this is chucking or not, I’m not sure, but it certainly gives the appearance of this.

I watched Andrew Flintoff’s Action all through the ashes and there wasn’t a thing wrong with it.
I was acutally the best action on show all series. He uses the crease to such good affect that his strong frame(body) thrives with the added power at the point of release.

Michael Holding even commended his use of levers and unweighting to produce for power through his truck.

The flick of the arm in release seems to be a misconsepstion over chucking. i have to say that with this apparent flick of the arm Flintoff gets more work on the seam and helps in his swing bowling. Especially reverse.

I have been trying to reproduce this action for my own gain as it really has all the plus’s. It out allows me to bowl a lot faster with less stress on my lower back.

Unless you have a t square measurement to test his flexion then i don’t think there is anything we can say. Same with peter roebuck.

It’s a wondeful action reminiscant of the west indies.
