What a snorter! Dermot Reeve: crack addict

By Will 4 years ago, at the end of May Leave a comment on this post

Cocaine

You go away for a weekend, and look what happens? Dermot Reeve has quit Channel 4, where he was a commentator for 5 years, due to his announcement that he’s addicted to cocaine. No great loss, really - he’s a jumped-up twit - and no great suprise, either. His repetoire consisted of “Faaantastic shot” and “WOW.” Not the most intelligent of cricket commentators.

Reeve also suggested there was widespread use of “illegal substances” within cricket when he played. “If every cricketer I knew at the time I played was banned from playing, you would not have seen very good teams out there,” he said.

Make your own judgements from that, I guess.

Worse than the people who indulge in such antics, are the people who feed off their downfall.

I agree with Jess, and for those who haven’t bothered to look any further than these deflamatory comments about Dermot Reeve, what about the mammoth achievements in this mans career? He has lived his own dreams, stood up and been counted, and if for a short period in his life he has experimented with drugs, big deal. I am sure he’s not the only one, is he…….? The only real mistake he has made here is admitting it openly. Although probably a random act of self sabotage, this move will result in him seeing things realisticly and I am sure he will pursue his rehabilitation with the same conviction as any other challenge in his life. So to all of you pompass finger pointers who justify not standing up yourselves by preying on the stumblings (and that is all it is) of others, give it up and give this man a break!

And to add further, drugs are a very real problem in our society. Young innocent lives are taken away every day as they try to find their way in a world that offers little hope. And this is a big deal! If you are passionate about these issues then don’t misdirect your anger towards people like Dermot Reeve. The over publicising of such “stories” detracts from the real issue of drug trafficking, addiction, crime, homelessness and the people who are profitting from this “business”, the dealers and in this case, the media.

And finally, yes it is a shame that Dermot has been in a position of showing leadership and being a role model to the young and abused this priviledge, but perhaps now he can show us how one retains their dignity and once again becomes the person they are meant to be.

Oh Dermot- as a Warwickshire fan all my life I am disappointed-n you were a hero to me in the 90’s. I always knew you were a bit of a ‘lad’ but you performed on the field so well… Good luck with recovery, and for Gods sake, get your life in order!!

Dermot was a bit vain though. A fried of mine once met him in a nightclub and Reeve was talking about how he might not have had the skill of Botham, but that he had the captaincy ability of Mike Brearly, and that the England selectors should have given him a few years as Captain. A bit of an exaggeration I would say.
