Who cares? If it’s not performance enhancing I don’t see what the issue is.

“Put the pipe away, Piper!” Warwickshire keeper in drugs SHOCKER!
By Will 3 years ago, at the start of May Leave a comment on this post

Warwickshire ‘keeper Keith Piper has been summoned to an ECB disciplinary panel for testing positive on a “recreational drug.” Unfortunate surname to have, “Piper,” but not as a bad as Mr Bong, Mrs Roach, or “James Ecstasy Tablet”[1] I suppose. Most newspapers are calling Piper Mr Anonymous, apart from the Daily Telegraph who obviously don’t think much of him
[1] NB: I don’t know anyone called James Ecstasy-Tablet

Maybe that’s the point - it’s the very antithesis of “performance enhancing”!

In which case it’s a Warwickshire, not an ECB, matter, surely?

Arguably, although if the laws of the land (and of the game) state no drugs can be taken, then it’s an ECB matter. Rules are rules…

Yes, you’re right there. But I’m questioning why it’s necessary for there to be that rule - to me, it seems that there is no reason for the ECB to be bothered about it. Warwickshire, on the other hand, do have a direct interest in that sort of thing and if it was their own private testing I could understand the motivations.

I don’t know, Ken, but it might be interesting to find out…
