When England last won the Ashes…

By Will 4 years ago, mid-March Leave a comment on this post

  • I was 5 years old.
  • My favourite number was 8
  • My favourite colour red
  • old Maggie was in power
  • I was living in the same house/town/country that I write this in
  • My hair wasn’t as curly as it’s turning out to be now
  • My future wife Maria Sharapova was born
  • Kapil Dev took his 300th Test wicket (at 28 the youngest, too)
  • Imran Khan took his 300th Test wicket, too (didn’t know that)
  • IBM-PC DOS Version 3.3 was released
  • Thought it was time I mentioned The Ashes. It’s been a while! My favourite colour is no longer red, it’s blue. But 8 still has to be the greatest of all numbers.

    Hi,

This is Chirayu from India. I like your blog’s name, Corridor of Uncertainty. Michael Vaughan and Marcus Trescothick would do well to avoid fishing at those balls or else the Australian slip cordon will come into play.

Australia seem to be unbeattable and it looks like a draw is as good a result as a win against Australia. The way they defeated Pakistan, and now they way they’re beating New Zealnd in New Zealand.

Adam Gilchrist (Gilly’s) in form with back to back test hundreds at a strike rate of more than 100%. Gilly scored a 162 off 146 balls with 22 fours and 5 sixes. Damien Martyn is in form, there’s Michael Clarke, Hayden and Langer make a formidable opening fair, and Ponting in the middle-order makes one of the strongest batting lineups to dislodge on any wicket in the world.

Australia has a batting lineup that will take some doing for the English bowlers to bowl out twice. Will Steve Harmison play all the test matches? How about Darren Gough?

England’s batting can counter Australia’s bowling and has the potential to cross 300 plus in test matches.

Good luck to England. Hope England gives a good fight to the Aussies and we get to watch engrossing Ashes cricket.

    Regards,
    Chirayu

I’m hoping that Daniel Cullen will make his Test debut for Australia in the Ashes series. He is literally too young to remember Australia losing to England (he’s only 20).

Got any more on him Scott? Like his address, so I can kill him before he unleashes any misery on us :) He’s 20. I’m 23. I too am too young to remember England winning The Ashes. I was just about in my Mother’s womb for the 1981 Headingley Test. Man, what a day it’ll be - whenever it’ll be…
