Dice cricket - with a twist

By Will 4 years ago, mid-March Leave a comment on this post

Read and smile:

Creating entire Test Match Series of dice cricket, between teams of composers, with each composer’s role in the team based on his music - Haydn as a solid opening batsman, Berlioz as a flashy number 5, Debussy as a hypnotizing wrist-spinner. If I remember rightly, the Spanish composers XI went on a long unbeaten run, largely carried by Manuel De Falla’s magestic form at number 6, until they finally met their match in the Scandinavian XI.

From A Flickering Light. I too used to play “dice cricket,” a game rather appropriately called Howzat. They weren’t traditional dice (dices? die? Plural of “dice” please, ladies and gents) - I won’t bore you with the ins and outs, suffice to say it kept me amused for hours. (1 | 2)

    I’ve seen some cricket die on sale at ebay - some are very expensive I think…I became fascinated with Tom on the British sitcom “Good Neighbors” sitting at the kitchen table playing cricket dice. If you have a Palm PDA there’s a freeware version of cricket dice over at Eurocool.com

    AKR: I had a temporary loss of linguistic, grammatical and spooling ability! Of course, it’s die…thanks.

    Giwiganz (what a name), I think you meant The Good Life, not Good Neighbours. I’ll have to have a look on eBay for some.

    Hi
    I am 13 years of age and often play dice cricket, my method though is much different to the one published above this is how i play.
    1. Get two players who desire to spend about half an hour rolling a dice on some paper.
    2. This is the scoring that i use:
    Number Rolled
    1= Howzat
    2= 2 runs
    3= 3 runs
    4= 4 runs
    5= 5 runs
    6= 6 runs

    3. To make matches more realistic you should give your first three batters 2 chances.

    4. Then just keep on with the score.

    5. This kept me occupied from Manchester to Glasgow!
