Prime Minister wants the Ashes on free-to-air television
At first I thought this was Tony Blair. Too good to be true - it’s John Howard, a politician with far more morals (and is a cricketing nut). I suppose it all comes down to Sky and whether they’ll allow it - which is pretty unlikely. I’ll be providing my own coverage for Aussies and others for The Ashes via texts/SMS which is probably scant consolation, but tough titties.

Hello. While I feel this England side is in a better position than ever before to defeat the all conquering and mighty Aussies. I think it is shame on broadcasters & governments from both nations not to make such an important, if not the most important historical fixtures between the two nations available to all concerned. Remember, the government has no money, only yours, be sure to tell them what you want to spend it on! Good luck & may the best team win.

I certainly hope there will be free to air coverage of the Ashes series. Cricket is our passion, and it would be a tragic loss to the majority of Australians if we cannot watch our national sportsmen in action.
