‘Lagaan’, which is mentioned in this article, is the greatest film ever made about cricket (not that there’s much competition). Bollywood directors know what they’re doing when it comes to capturing the finest of all games on film. That said, although some members of Gloucestershire’s 2nd XI took part, I don’t believe that they involved many professional cricketers - just actors who could play a bit. It’s probably better if it stays that way, rather than trying to get genuine stars of the Test arena onto the screen. Opinion is divided on Lee’s credentials as a bowler, but is likely to be unanimous if & when it comes to judging his acting ability.

Read this on Mike’s blog (thanks Mike) and laughed at his pontification of Lee in the movies. God…can you imagine?

Wasn’t the freakishly-talented Indian batsman Kambli lured into Bollywood films? Perhaps I’ve got his name wrong - I think he, with Tendulkar, set Indian cricket alight in the early 90s…loved your final sentence ![]()
