Don’t have to worry about the speed of the pitch if you don’t hit it. Kallis must have had his mind elsewhere.

It’s a slow wicket, true bounce and Smith made the right call to bat first, yet they’re 3 down before lunch. Hoggard snaffled Smith 2nd ball of the day, Flintoff broke the Rudolf/de Villiers partnership and then Harmison bowled Kallis for a duck with a full-toss at 92mph. Harmo has averaged 88mph this session – and this on a very slow wicket…

Yeah – interestingly the last few games here, the first session’s score has been around 80-4 so they’re on par. But England have more experienced batters…anyway, early days early days
